Hello all,
It’s officially February, which means it’s Children’s Dental Health Month! Our Public Relations committee is calling on WA RDHs to dress up as your favorite tooth-related character (tooth fairy, etc.), have some fun and collect some toothbrushes for a good cause.
Message from Public Relations
The goal of this visit is not only to get donations for a local charity, BUT to also have fun and let patients, the public, and providers know who we are:
• Hygienists are preventive specialists in the dental profession
• Our patients fill our schedules because we care, we listen, we entertain, we help them reach their goals
• Incoming hygiene students mention that their career choice was prompted by a friendly hygienist
• Who you interact with during this process is the focus. Share who you are, why you are out doing this, your concern for children/oral health, your commitment to your community
This is a great opportunity for us to show up, and represent our profession:
- No one will forget running into a tooth fairy, Power Ranger for health, Sherrif against tooth decay, etc
- Patients will get a kick out of their visit
- Ask for a photo, get permission to post, share the photo with the office so they can add to their social media
- Leave a pre-printed recipe card (WDHA will provide) that will have a QR code for the RDHs on staff to join WDHA and a QR code for the practice to post a job opening for a RDH if they are in need. Ask the front desk person to post in the lunch room and tell them what the card is for so it is not thrown away.
Get the practice involved if you can
- Photo with the dentist, the hygienists on staff—if possible—get verbal OK to post
- Let them know that they will have the practice named on our website for their donation, in the Newsletter—everyone want exposure
- If you run into someone on the way into the practice, stop and promote dental hygiene.
- Take a photo with verbal OK to post
- Share who you are, what we do
If you choose to participate, these are your tasks/options:
- Decide who you wish to donate the items to: pick a local charity that you believe in
- Deliver your donations, in costume. Don’t miss this opportunity to take a photo, send to WDHA for the newsletter/social media posts.
- Make sure that the charity is listed and agrees to the media posts
- Share the photos with them for their campaigns.
- Send your photos, your practices that donated, the charity photos and info, where you targeted your visits, what school you are with, etc to info@wsdha.org
- Don’t make this complicated: I can hit 10 dental practices in Snohomish in a few hours.
- Go alone, with a friend, co-worker, classmate: I have scheduled my start with an old co-worker. We want to hit our old practice 😊
- Get a hygienist out that may not be a member yet. Show them that we do have fun. Add value so that they may consider joining.
We will post results and get friendly competition going 😊
